KNOWER is an electrifying music duo, composed of drummer-producer Louis Cole and vocalist Genevieve Artadi. Based on Los Angeles, California, they have been creating waves in the music industry since their inception in 2009. Their sound is a vibrant fusion of electronic music, funk rhythms, and jazz elements that are often combined with humorous and thought-provoking lyrics, earning them a dedicated global fanbase.

Hanging On (Life, 2016)

Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi form an extraordinary pairing, expertly fusing eccentric and audacious compositions with never-ending infectious funk riffs.

“Hanging On” is a dynamic and thrilling fusion of electro-funk-pop. It exudes explosive energy and keeps listeners engaged throughout. Knower’s whimsical lyrics and overflowing-self-aware adds an unexpected layer of joy that surpasses your expectations. KNOWER’s music caters to the curious souls who seek unique sounds, but they undoubtedly deserve greater recognition and a larger audience due to their exceptional talent.

Time Traveler (Let Go, 2013)

The initial version of the song is featured on the album “Let Go”, but the live version has garnered significant attentions. Louise Cole and his fellow musicians exhibit a crisp sense of rhythm, chord progression, and improvisational prowess, infusing a fresh wave of funk during the performance.

  • Drums: Louise Cole
  • Vocal: Genevieve Artadi
  • keyboard: Rai Thistlethwayte
  • Bass: Sam Wilkes
  • Saxophone: Sam Gendel

This live session reaches perfection with Louise’ nasty groove, Sam’s rich bass chords, Rai’s bubblingly playful keys/synths, another Sam’s fiery saxophone solo, and Genevieve’s beautifully bouncing voice.

Overtime (Life, 2016)

Like “Hanging On,” “Overtime” is a potent tribute to the 80’s funk. When blended with Cole’s genuine beat and Artadi’s solid falsetto, it gives the track an unmistakable retro dancable kick in the 21st century.

Although the sheer enjoyment derived from their characters can sometimes overshadow the profound artistic depth that underpins their work, the duo’s compositional innovative take on jazz, funk, and electronic elements is permeated in “Life”.

I’m The President (KNOWER FOREVER, 2023)

Knower’s first full-length album “KNOWER FOREVER” sparkles brilliantly, with the lead single “I’m The President” setting the stage. This track thrives on a pulsating, heavy synth brass funk rhythm that exudes a contagious energy. This massive ensemble supports Artadi as she confidently lays down her lyrics and amps up the vibe.

Jamming in every corner of a house, “I’m the President” signifies a spirited comeback to KNOWER’s original sound. It is hyped-up funky and delightfully whimsical, reminiscent of their viral hits like “Time Traveler” and “Overtime”.

When You’re Ugly (ft. Genevieve Artadi)

“Time” marks Cole’s third solo venture and his first collaboration with a prominent record label (Brainfeeder). In the album’s second track, Cole shares a magic spell called “Fxxx the world and be real cool When You’re Ugly”.

Featuring Genevieve Artadi, “When You’re Ugly” subtly echoes KNOWER’s signature style while still carving out its own distinct identity. The track is rhythmically engaging with a funky, repetitive beat, an irresistibly catchy bassline, and a driving horn section that propels you through the song.

F it up (Live Sesh and Xtra Songs)

“F it up,” which was recorded in what is casually referred to as “some guy’s house,” kicks off with Cole setting the tune before descending the stairs to play drums squeezed in a staircase corner. Throughout his performance, he counts an ‘f-word’ tally and amusingly acknowledges his mother for supplying the snacks during the video shoot.

In their album “Live Sesh and Xtra Songs,” Louis Cole, Genevieve Artadi, and the big band surpassed all expectations, leaving an unforgettable mark on those lucky enough to experience it. Cole seamlessly switched between roles as drummer, singer, and band leader. The big band provides an impeccable backdrop to Cole’s musical virtuosity, culminating in a sonic funk explosion during the live recording session.

Thinking (Live Sesh and Xtra Songs)

“Thinking,” another popular track from “Live Sesh and Xtra Songs,” is sure to plaster a grin on your face. The concept of squeezing the whole band into (some guy’s house) kitchen, donning quirky outfits, or knocking on the window to signal a cut-off contributes significantly to its delightful collaboration.

Cole’s keyboard solo shines brightly on Sam’s freaky funky bass line, creating an amusing yet impressive groove. The wild saxophone playing almost ignites a kitchen fire in the house while the big band’s precise syncopations set up an overflowing banquet of funk.
